Counseling (LPC / LMHC)

Your supervision can be in person or by live, synchronous video, and the rules set no cap on video hours.

• Video must be synchronous with live verbal and visual interaction
• 1 hour individual or 2 hours group supervision per 40 practice hours
• At least three-quarters of supervision hours must be individual

Social Work (LCSW)

You can count up to 50 of your 100 required supervision hours by live video, and your supervisor must get Board preapproval for more.

No more than 50 of the 100 required supervision hours may be by technology unless the Board preapproves more.

• Technology hours must be synchronous video and audio for the whole session
• Supervision at least every two weeks, 1 hour per 30 practice hours
• No more than 25 group supervision hours count

Marriage & Family Therapy (LMFT)

North Carolina's rule requires face-to-face supervision but never says whether video counts, so confirm with the board before relying on video hours.

• 200 supervision hours from an AAMFT Approved Supervisor or equivalent
• If you finished 200 hours in your program, 25 more post-degree
• LMFTAs need at least one supervision hour every month
